Rotation Pool, a form of billiards, uses a pool table with a standard layout and a cue ball. It's similar to ten ball and nine ball in that players have to pick the lowest numbering ball first. It does have some additional rules, however, that go beyond the General Rules of Pocket Billiards.
Rotation pool rules are based upon the point system. This means that the player with the most points wins. Point schedule determines the numerical numbers of the pool ball balls. These numbers can range anywhere from 1 to 15. Other handicapping systems can be used by players. You can pocket a lower valued ball, but a player who pockets it on the same shot can pocket a high-value one. This allows players to have different points totals.
Rotation Pool uses a billiards rack in a triangle shape. Generally, the lower valued balls on the table are pocketed first, while the higher valued balls are pocketed on the same play. A random arrangement of the balls on the rack is also possible. The balls in the upper third of the rack are called "money balls", and are given dollar amounts.
The game known as rotation pool is primarily used for gambling. Points are awarded to players who have the most balls. The rules of the game may allow the highest score to earn a share in the game kitty. This is often at stake. There are many leagues or tournaments available for rotation pool. Players can compete against each other in leagues. Most tournaments are held in multiple rounds. The top finishers advance to next round. Or, you can play in a single elimination round.
While there are many types of rotation pool games, the most common is a ten-ball pool. The player must legally pocket the eight balls in this game. If the player fails to pick up the eight-ball, the player will be eliminated. The player who pockets the eighth ball, however, is considered to have made the shot. The ball is returned to the player for the first shot following the break.
Unlike most games of pool, rotation pool requires a player to hit the lowest numbered ball on the table first. All other balls are still out of play, and the player who pockets the last ball must make the shot. A foul must also be called before the next shot. Faults could include dropping an object ball on the table, failing legal to pocket an object, or not contacting a numbered cue ball. Fouls also have a number associated with them. If the foul is repeated three times, the player will be removed from the frame.
Rotation Pool may be played up to 4 people. The game is most commonly played in a league where players form teams. League organizers may pay a franchise fee to help organize and promote the sport.
