Breaking the Crucible Record of Snooker

You've probably heard the expression "maximum break" when you play snooker. It refers to the highest break in a single frame. A player could reach maximum break by potting all of the 15 reds as well as all of the 15 blacks for 120 point. Another way to break this limit is to put all six colours into a single frame and earn 27 points.

Stephen Hendry’s 147

After breaking the record number 147, seven-time World Snooker champion was in the news. The break was made in the seventh frame of his match against Stuart Bingham, Sheffield. The world number 1 is now defending his title, and is in line to win another major prize. Hendry, however, isn't convinced that the additional incentive of a Crucible 147 break is worth it.

Ronnie O'Sullivan's 147

Ronnie O'Sullivan has made 15 competitive 147 breaks. His first came during 1997's World Championship at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre. He was up against Elliot Slessor and Allan Taylor at the 2018 English Open. This is the fastest maximum achieved by a male player at the World Championship.

Jimmy White's 147

Jimmy White's 1992 break at 147 was one the most famous breaks in snooker. The British professional had a fantastic career and was one of the most popular snooker players of all time. He won the UK Championship, Masters, and six World Championship finals. Despite his success, he never managed to win The Crucible.

Jimmy White's 147 against Tony Drago

Jimmy White's 147 against Tony Draga has been regarded as one of the greatest billiards shots. The former world number one hit it in three minutes, 31 seconds. It was the fastest century split in a ranking race. Drago is an excellent player but has his flaws. His temperament can be erratic and he's had bad play against the rest.

A table tennis record of 147 points is impressive. Jim White, however, was the one to accomplish this feat in 1992. White broke the Reds in one of his matches against Steve Davis. After that, he seemed to be on track for his career-high 147. However, his 10th Black was a tough one. After kissing a red, White chose black. This earned him PS114,000. Drago was warmly greeted by him after the match.
