The snooker tournament world championship is an event that is highly viewed by fans around the globe. The highlight of any sporting calendar is this annual event. It was started in 1927, over 90 years ago. It has played a significant role in the preservation of snooker over its history.

It was easy to fill TV time with snooker when it first began. A player could earn a fortune by winning tours or tournaments. However, the rise of snooker as a mass-market sport came at the turn of the millennium. The sport was popularised by Alex Higgins and Dennis Taylor, two of the most well-known players.

The Crucible Theatre is the only venue that has hosted the snooker world championship for 40 years. With a capacity of 980, it is one of most iconic and well-known sports venues in the entire world. There have been many great matches in the snooker championship. 1985 was the year of one such match. During two days of drama and emotion, two of the biggest semi-finals went to the deciding frame.
