The millennium saw the rise in popularity of snooker to become a mainstream sport. Dennis Taylor and Alex Higgins became the most popular players in the game, helping to popularize it.

Although the snooker world championship has been held in many places, the Crucible Theatre has been the venue for the last 40 years. The building has been renovated over the last decade but will still host the tournament until at most 2027.

In the 1990s, competition was at a high level which allowed for significant increases in the prize money.

Ronnie O'Sullivan was the most well-known snooker player in the world when he won 1997's snooker world championship. In the final, he beat Mick Price 18-13. His performance was a huge success in snooker. He is regarded as the greatest snooker players of all times and is well-known for his ability to bring drama and excitement into the game.

There have been some fantastic matches in the snooker tournament. 1985 saw the first such match. Two days of excitement and drama brought about the final two semi-finals.

The largest post-midnight audience ever on any TV channel was there to witness the final. Michael Jordan returned to chair with a big smile and was welcomed by his fans. After a tiring day on the green, he knew how important it was for him to win this championship.
