The official snooker world ranking system ranks players based on their most recent performance. The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association administers it. This listing will be updated for each ranking series. In order to be eligible to play on the World Snooker Tour, a player must have a current snooker world ranking. Based on their performance in tournaments and ranking, players are seeded.
For the first two years, the snooker world rankings were based on the results of three World Championships: the World Open, UK Championship, and the Professional Players Tournament. Each of these events had a winner who was given one seed. The runner-ups got two. From 1976 to 1982, the World Championship was the only ranking competition. In 1982, the International Open was the fourth ranking tournament. As competition grew, so did the number of tournaments.
The World Championship saw the return of the knockout format. This was considered the start of modern snooker. Most records today are based upon the 1969 period. The current snooker world ranking lists has 31 titles.
In the 1970s Ray Reardon was the undisputed king of the snooker world. He was the World Champion and won six Welsh amateur titles. He was the first to win a ranking event, the 1974 World Championship. He held the record for most ranking titles until Steve Davis broke it in 1998. However, he subsequently retired from snooker.
Stephen Hendry, one of 1990's most dominant players, was a great example of this. He held the number one ranking for eight straight years and claimed seven world titles during that time. He is currently tied with Ronnie O'Sullivan on the all time ranking titles list. He will retire from snooker following the 2012 championships.
Judd Trump is the current world ranking snooker winner. He is also the snooker champion of the year. He is still not in the top 10. He was just one points behind Mark Williams as of the beginning 2019. Both players will battle it out in the finals, including the 2020 UK Championship and Cazoo Masters.
Kyren Wilson, another top player in this rankings, is also a big one. He is a professional, who specializes in the Premier League. He enjoys betting on sports and is an expert in MLB and NBA. He also enjoys playing NFL and MLB. In his last two seasons, he has won four ranking finals, with two losses in the finals.
The four-time world champion Mark Selby has lost in the semi-final and quarter-final of the World Championship. His career has been filled with high-profile disappointments.
From September 12-16, India's fourth Open World Ranking Snooker Tournament (Indian Open World Ranking Snooker Tournament) will be held in Visakhapatnam. There will be many celebrities there to enjoy the action. Entry to the event is free.
