The World Trick Shot Championship is a world championship of trick shot billiards. The first edition of the competition took place in 1991 on snooker table. Matchroom Sport organised the event. Matchroom Sport organized it. In 2005, the competition took place at Celtic Manor.
In the 1970s, trick shots were popular among professional billiards players around the world. These players were awarded prizes like the World Championship of Artistic Pool, International Challenge Cup, or the Swedish Championship. Today, trick shot is a form of pool that is a sanctioned sport by the World Pool-Billiard Association. Other than participating in tournaments as trick shot artists, they also teach other people the sport.
Since the late 1970s, Mike Massey has been one of the most well-known trick shot artists in the world. He has played many games with sports celebrities, such as Jason Gedrick and Paul Sorvino. Massey is also a prominent figure in the sport, both as an instructor and fund raiser. Massey's performances at the Waste Management Pheonix Open, and at the Volvo PGA at Wentworth have earned him a lot of attention.
Mike Massey has taught many professionals in the sport including Scott Baiin, Dean Cain and James Tolkan. He has competed in several international professional competitions. In 2002, he was part of Team U.S.A. which won the trick shot championship world title. The team also performed at HSBC Championships Abu Dhabi, and at Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
Jim Sommer is another amazing trick shot artist. He has participated in numerous international Trick-shot turning events, and has traveled to the USA to compete at the US Nationals. He is the US Nationals Artistic Pool Champion.
The World Trick Shot Artists Association is an international organization that brings together trick shot artists from around the globe. Paul Gerni, world champion trick shot artist, is the founder of the association. The WTSAA Book contains 160 tricks. Some of these tricks include the machine gun shot, the "kick" shot, and the quick-fire shot. Other trick shots include: the "pro", the "extreme" and the "proper" shots.
Tim "The Dragon", the 2022 US Nationals Artistic Pool Champion in Artistic Pool, won the title by beating Jason "The Michigan Kid", Lynch in the finals. Both Chin and Lynch are WPA World Ranked. Lynch is still an Ohio State student, but Chin has the advantage as a seasoned professional.
The next Trick Shot Magic event will be held on October 9-10. Eight international stars will compete in this competition. They will be competing for the purse of $40,000. Each player will have six to ten choices. Each player will be allowed three chances to complete the shot after choosing their favorite. A point will be awarded to the player who completes a successful shot.
Geoff McIlroy was the best trick shot artist of all time for many years. Noel Hunt taught him how to do trick shots. He has been on ladders, met people he didn't expect to meet and has fallen off them all but he has not stopped trying.
