Ralph Greenleaf, an avid billiards player, started only a few short years ago. He has been to three different cushion billiards tournaments. He also placed in the top 10 of the Illinois 3-cushion Billiards Tournament last month. He has been regularly visiting the Twin Cities billiards club each month.
Nguyen Quyet Nguyen and Tran Quyetchien are two of Vietnam's most highly-ranked billiards players. Both of them are ranked among the top 10 in the world. Both players are currently among the top 8 with Tran Quet Chien being number 7. Both players are defending champions in the tournament. Ngo Dinh Nai is ranked 29. Jeremy Bury, France is ranked 18.
On December 20-22, the 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Continental Cup in Vietnam will take place. The tournament will feature eight top Vietnamese players. The total prize pool will be approximately 160,000 US dollars. A number of events and other events will take place throughout the year in addition to this tournament.
The United States Billiard Association or USBA is the official governing authority for carom pool in the United States. Each year, the National Championship culminates in a series events organized by The USBA. The USA will represent the USA at Pan-American Championship as the National Championship's top two players.
The three Madison 3-Cushion Cushion Billiards Club tournaments were extremely competitive and highly contested. The tournament had two flights, each with six players. The tournament was handicapped. Only the top five players in each flight progressed to the semis. The top 12 participants will receive $7,000. The tournament was sponsored by First Business Bank of Madison and the tournament director was Bruce Venzke, the famous cue games legend.
UMB (Union of Billiards and Carom Billiards), the world's official governing body of 3-cushion, sponsored the tournament. UMB also organizes numerous recurring tournaments each season. The UMB Turnier Schedule lists a variety of events.
This tournament was held south of Binh Duong. Eight teams battled each other over three nights. The semi-finals are decided by the top 2 teams. The quarterfinals are decided by the 3rd and 4th teams. Single elimination will be the final round. The winner of the Las Vegas World Cup 3-cushion billiards tournament will win a cash prize of $20,000. This is the first appearance of a Vietnamese representative in the semi-finals.
Although the 3-Cushion Billiards Tournament may be a new game, it has gained popularity in many countries. It was also featured as a short animation in Disney's Mathmagic Country. It was also featured as a character in Seven Billiard Tables 2007, a Spanish film that won the Goya Award.
